What is a TENS Machine?

A TENS machine is a truly wonderful device and one that was a constant companion throughout my labours. As I’m always singing its praises, I have found that not many women know about the TENS machine and its use.

Essentially, it is a device used to alleviate pain by delivering mild electrical impulses through the skin. The electrical stimulation can activate the body’s natural painkillers, such as endorphins, and alter the way pain signals are processed by the nervous system.
