What is a TENS Machine?

A TENS machine is a truly wonderful device and one that was a constant companion throughout my labours. As I’m always singing its praises, I have found that not many women know about the TENS machine and its use.

Essentially, it is a device used to alleviate pain by delivering mild electrical impulses through the skin. The electrical stimulation can activate the body’s natural painkillers, such as endorphins, and alter the way pain signals are processed by the nervous system.

With the Neurotrac Obstetric TENS machine, everything is pre-set for you! No need to mess around with dials or find the right frequency. You just need to press the plus or minus button for more or less intensity – you don’t want to think about anything more than that while in labour. Just clip the machine onto your top or bottoms and push the boost button when a contraction starts and push it again when the contraction ends. Simple!
